Daniel Griffin
Double Bass
Originally from Stirling, Daniel began his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Iain Crawford, graduating in 2015. He then moved to New York to study with Timothy Cobb of the New York Philharmonic at Manhattan School of Music.
Since then he has maintained a varied freelance career as both a double bassist and electric bassist. He’s performed and trialed with many of the country’s major orchestras, and has appeared as Guest Principal and No.2 Bass with ensembles including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, and Manchester Camerata.
Daniel is also a regular collaborator with Musicians in Exile, a Glasgow-based ensemble made up of asylum seekers and refugees. The group provides a creative and supportive space for displaced musicians, offering them instruments, rehearsal space, and performance opportunities. Daniel’s involvement allows him to explore music from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, and he’s passionate about using music to help tell the stories of those who have been forced to leave their homes.
Outside of music, Daniel’s hobbies include fishing, video games, and going to punk gigs.
